TWENTY PERCENT OFF at my Etsy shop

in gloriously sunny San Diego!

I was shocked when I stepped out of the San Diego airport to realize how warm and nice it is here.  Photos of gluttony and beaches to come, I'm sure.  If you haven't stopped by the shop, I outlined the details of how my travels affect shipping dates, for the holidays and otherwise.  Even in my absence, though, I'll be available via email or Etsy conversations and I have lots of sweet new treasures to list for sale. Speaking of sale - I have a special holiday offer coming up soon. Very soon, indeed.

Death & Texas

This handlebar bag (that becomes a purse!) makes me want to develop the habit of bicycling more often...even though it's nearly winter.  Death & Texas makes some fine canvas and leather goods.

do you know Michael C. Hsiung?

I did not, officially, until today. Boy am I glad that's in the past.
Find much, much more here....and be sure to read the titles.

Moofus!

Moofus, if you aren't in the know, is a 12 year old boy from Australia. He makes nice drawings. I happened upon his work a year or two ago, but found him again today via Lost at E Minor.

In addition to selling prints through Lost at E Minor, he also has a presence on Etsy and Big Cartel where he
explains, "My secretary (mother) will package it up in a cello sleeve and ship it off to you in a bend proof mailer. She will also probably steal my money so she can eat cake."

'In the Grotto' on a Thursday night

Last night I had the pleasure of being invited to "In the Grotto," a ceramic showcase including my bestest, loveliest friend.  My boy & I both think you should check out her work!

The artiste herself with her boy and precious whirling hunk o' styrofoam....

And just because I felt on the stylish side and my hair was cooperating somewhat...

side by side by side

Naomi of Eleventy has created an amazing comparison of three related, but distinct printing methods: traditional screen printing, Gocco, and Yudu.

printing & binding presented in a lovely compilation of hundreds of photographs

Fobots = Found Objects + Robots

I haven't seen one of these in person, yet, but I really hope to next time I'm in Antropologie.

Comprised of found objects and industrial pieces, these one-of-a-kind 'Fobot' fellows were created specially for Anthropologie stores. They don't come cheap, though, so maybe it could be your Christmas/birthday/anniversary gifts all in one.

I just might love this too much.

The art & design blogs are all abuzz about Mark Weaver, and for good reason. If you have yet to stumble across any of his work, take the time to indulge.

in between the book and the film: the Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wowee! Take a look at some of the concept art by Criscoh (couldn't find his real name) for the Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Melissa Forman + Leslie Minnis

The stunning detail in Melissa Forman's paintings is near-photographic at times and highly stylized at others.

The vivid scenes remind me of another fantastical painter (and illustrator, and sculptor, and more) named Leslie Minnis. I had the privilege of seeing some of her work at Andenken, a unique gallery space in Denver.

You can see a few more images on their site by clicking on the photo set with her name, Feb 2008.  Interestingly, Leslie extends the worlds created in her paintings into tangible existence by crafting select objects found within. Kites, musical instruments, monster sleeping bags...it really is amazing, go see!

Nomoco = happiness

I'm smitten with the brilliant colors, texture and retro feel to Nomoco's illustrations.

mmmmmm, want.. . ..

With the spastic temperatures that signal fall here in Boulder, I've got a serious craving for a cape coat...a vintage cape coat, at that.

limited use, but portable, letterpress

In case you haven't heard the news of the much-anticipated L Letterpress Tool, there's a thorough write-up about it over at Paper Crave complete with demo video. Throughout the world of printing, folks are genuinely torn over this little machine. I know I would love to play with one, but have yet to feel any strong urge to venture into "letterpress" without having any experience with Letterpress.

holiday lights done right

As if this strip in Denver needed to woo me any further....

I hope to see them again after the next snow...or during!

the beginning

A fairly accurate representation of how I feel:

Since opening up shop on Etsy a couple weeks ago, I have decided it behooves me to finally start my own blog as well. It's floated around my mind for a while, but now it seems there is more reason.

Fingers crossed.
